Therefore, the need to lose weight is not simply cosmetic, but lifesaving. The good news is that most obesity-related health problems improve, and some are even cured, after weight loss surgery.  A person is considered morbidly obese when their weight significantly increases their risk of weight related health issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes and heart attack.   Morbid obesity means you are 100 pounds or more over your ideal body weight. The body mass index would be 40 or higher. This type of obesity causes a wide variety of health issues.

weight and who has maintained this level of obesity for five years or more."
